It was like saying, \u201cThanks, but let me just check if this is actually any good.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n And that brings us straight to the world of affiliate marketing\u2014where suspicion and second-guessing can be as costly as blind faith.<\/p>\n I was grateful. But instead of using it, I placed it carefully on a shelf. \u201cToo nice to write in,\u201d I told myself.<\/p>\n It stayed there for ten years.<\/p>\n Many years later, while clearing out old boxes, I found it again\u2014still pristine. And I felt a pang of regret. It wasn\u2019t meant to be admired\u2014it was meant to be used.<\/p>\n Just like opportunities in our online business life.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve seen it countless times (and been guilty of it myself): a free course, a training PDF, a supportive community invitation\u2014all offered with no strings attached.<\/p>\n And yet, instead of diving in, we delay. We hesitate. We check for the catch.<\/p>\n We inspect the gift horse.<\/p>\n And often, by the time we\u2019re satisfied it\u2019s safe\u2014it\u2019s already galloped off into the distance.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t get me wrong\u2014healthy scepticism is vital online. There\u2019s no shortage of shiny rubbish.<\/p>\n But there\u2019s a point where caution turns into paralysis. Where we miss out on genuinely useful resources simply because they don\u2019t come wrapped in hype.<\/p>\n Take the MAP Book<\/strong>, for instance (the one I mentioned Monday). It\u2019s a classic example. Short, clear, no upsell hidden behind the curtain. And yet, some folks will still walk past it because\u2026 it\u2019s free.<\/p>\n Too good to be true? Or just\u2026 good?<\/p>\n There\u2019s a story from the 1500s about noblemen being gifted warhorses by foreign rulers. Inspecting those horses’ mouths would have been an insult\u2014not just to the horse, but to the relationship.<\/p>\n Sometimes, accepting a gift gracefully is a sign of wisdom, not naivety.<\/p>\n The same is true with resources in our marketing life. The value isn’t always in the price\u2014it\u2019s in the action we take.<\/p>\n Let me share a few times when I looked a gift horse in the mouth<\/em>\u2014and lived to regret it:<\/p>\n Turning down a free webinar<\/strong> from someone who later became a major mentor of mine<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Ignoring a no-cost email course<\/strong> because it had \u201ctoo basic\u201d in the subject line<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Not using ChatGPT for six months<\/strong> after I first heard about it because I thought it was just for coders<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Lesson learned.<\/p>\n These days, if something might<\/em> help and costs me nothing but time\u2014I give it a fair go.<\/p>\n As online marketers, especially affiliates, we thrive on momentum. Not perfection. Not certainty. Momentum.<\/p>\n That means testing, trying, exploring. Not just judging from the sidelines.<\/p>\nA Lesson from an Unexpected Place<\/h3>\n
